North of Peterson, south of Peterson, was it so different ?
Where Hollywood Park seems to have a foot in both the urban and suburban worlds, depending on which block you’re passing, Peterson Park is pure suburb. How can you tell? Attached garages are far more common in Peterson Park than in Hollywood Park, as are two-car garages.
I thought the candy counter was A LOT BIGGER.
Those of you who grew up in Hollywood Park during the fifties and sixties will understand how I feel about discovering this photograph.
We were never trouble makers, just a group unafraid to push back when pushed. In retrospect, we were good role models.
He attended Haugen Elementary School and graduated from Roosevelt High School; he had been a fountain boy at S&L and a regular at Purity Delicatessen; he got kishke to go from Harvey’s Deli and sold shoes at Maling’s, and he still has his Funny Fellows club jacket.
It’s not just the stop sign that looks so unfamiliar. Where’s the traffic light at the northeast corner of Kimball and Bryn Mawr, the busy crossroads at the heart of Chicago’s Hollywood Park neighborhood?
