Having a raffle was a way to draw new readers to my blog and make sure my old ones could still find me after I changed the look and the web address. One reason I like hearing from readers is many of you tell me your personal stories about life in Chicago and, more often than not, your stories and your photographs serve as the inspiration for new blogposts.
My goal in keeping this blog has been to learn more about the city I’ve lived in all my life and not necessarily from books. Hearing your stories helps me towards my goal.
Besides getting good ideas for posts from you, I do feel as though you’ve become friends. I wish I had enough prizes to send each one of you a small gift to remind you of Chicago. I’ll keep my ears open for more opportunities for giveaways, but in the meantime I have two prizes to award today.
First, Erica gets two FREE tickets for a Chicago Elevated tour with Margaret Hicks. This will be a blast and if the date you choose works out for me, I will join you.
Second prize goes to an out-of-towner, Jean, and she gets an autographed copy of Elaine Soloway’s Chicago memoir, The Division Street Princess. Jean, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll wish you could head over to Division Street. If you ever visit Chicago, I promise to take you over there.
Prize winners, I’ll be sending you an email at the address you used when you left a comment, so if you don’t hear from me today, please sent me a note using the “contact” form on this blog.
Thanks again everyone for visiting and come back Monday for a new installment in my ongoing series on Chicago porches.
Marv, thanks for visiting my blog. I can’t wait to tell the author, Elaine Soloway. She’ll be thrilled.
My mother was born and raised near Division and California during the 20s /30s. I just sent her a copy of the book from Amazon and mom is thrilled with the descriptions of life in the old neighborhood. Her cousins attended Lafayette School and also lived in the back of their retail store.
Thanks for the recommendation.
my raffle luck is running dry!!
Guess what! Elaine’s book not only has a chapter about an experience on a street car, she also has a photograph of one.
Wow. I’m humbled Frances. I was trying to remember what I commented on Chicago.
I did say that 2 senior managers relocated to Vancouver from Chicago.
One of them, M. Schiffer gave a public lecture which included the history of Chicago’s streetcar and transit system.
You have to realize that Vancouver, BC has not had any streetcars in our city since the late 1950’s.
