Starting today I will be publishing a series of blogposts featuring Marc Klowden’s photographs taken at Roosevelt High School and at school sports events during the 1960s. Marc was a Roosevelt Review photographer and 1966 alum. Previously he shared with us photographs of Albany Park circa 1968.
The first two photographs are from a football game against Austin High School, October 1965. The other three photographs are from a faculty game in 1965. Marc mentioned he finds the most interesting ones show the students in the stands, and I agree.
Who can you identify in these images? Did you attend any of these events? Double-click on images to view enlarged size. Share your recollections in the comments. Thanks to Mike Wolstein for captions.
Below is the first photo shown above, with some students identified, thanks to Mike Wolstein. Click on the image to see enlarged size.
We lost that game to Austin! Mike trams #27 our fullback is on his shoulders after running through 3 defenseman! Best to you! Tommy blais:
Thanks Mike. I fixed the caption.
The faculty jumper, going up against #13, is English teacher Mathew M. McCarthy, not Mathews.
Thanks for adding the names, Mike.
The picture of the seven faculty members, taken before a student-Faculty basketball game has the following individuals:

Marc Klowden was a friend of my brother, Robin Levin. He went to Haugan, class of 1962. Probably Roosevelt class of 1966.
Stuart, I’m fairly certain there was no Ronald Klowden at either Roosevelt or Bateman in 1957-58. All of us Klowdens are related and I was the first one of them to attend Roosevelt in 1962.
The photos were taken about 7 years after I graduated, but the last name of the photographer, Klowden, sounds familiar to me. I seem to recall a boy named Ronald Klowden either from Bateman Grammar School or from Roosevelt High School. He was not in our Roosevelt High School graduating class, but could have been a June 1957 or June 1958 graduate. Hopefully, Mark Klowden will see this comment and can respond. I seem to remember that Ronald Klowden was tall and had dark hair. I always enjoy comments and photos in this blog.
