Then and Now: 3346 West Bryn Mawr Avenue

For those of you who grew up in Hollywood Park before 1970, no explanation necessary. For everyone else, the photo on the left is dated 1968, and the one on the right was taken in 2018.

The Hollywood Bowl sold penny candy, and at lunchtime it was jammed with kids buying grape gumballs, licorice records, pixie stix, wax lips, flying saucers, bull’s eyes and so many other favorites.

If you’d like to see interior shots of the Hollywood Bowl, and of owners Joe and Helen, I’ve written about the Hollywood Bowl before: What Made Hollywood Park So Sweet and I Feel Like a Kid in a Candy Store. Read the comments on those posts for more neighborhood memories. If you’re like me and a lot of other readers, you’ll be surprised to see that the candy counter wasn’t nearly as big as you remembered.

If you come back to visit, check out the Bryn Mawr Breakfast Club right next door to the old Hollywood Bowl storefront.

Hi, Kathy. Thanks for stopping by. I don’t think I have House of Charm on my Bryn Mawr Hall of FAme. I will check, and if not I will add it. I also send you an email so you can give me additional details.

Hollywood deli east of kimball had a terrific corn beef (I was the machugana(?) gentile…Mayo
    On corn beef…..and we’d laugh)

“If you come back to visit, check out the Bryn Mawr Breakfast Club right new door to the old Hollywood Bowl storefront.”

    “next door” not “new door”

    Can’t catch those with autocorrect!!!
